Summer Children's Theater

2010 Season

The Grand's Summer Children's Theater presents a variety of fun and engaging performances by both local and national artists. Each show is a unique adventure offering something for everyone, with classic fairy tales, world music, giant puppets, hilarious science experiments, and even a chance for local children to star in the show!

Summer Children's Theater is designed to introduce children to the excitement of live performance. The shows are appropriate for children aged 3 and up, and are perfect for schools, summer camps, daycare centers, and families.

Doktor Kaboom!

Doktor Kaboom! performs original interactive science comedy shows for audiences of all ages. Creatively blending theatre arts with the wonders of scientific exploration, Doktor Kaboom! keeps his audience riveted with interest and rolling with laughter. Join him for a sidesplitting journey of increasingly spectacular (and often successful) science experiments designed to involve, excite, educate, and entertain.

Harmony Street

A young boy, moping because he is not allowed to take drum lessons, wanders through his neighborhood, but soon his walk around the block becomes a musical journey around the world! As he meets other residents of Harmony Street, he learns about the vibrant rhythms of Guinea, Ghana, Cuba, Brazil, Trinidad and America. Harmony Street captivates children with a colorful multimedia presentation, a live storyteller, and more than 50 percussion instruments ranging from a standard drum kit to congas, steel drums, repinique, and djembe. By the end of the show, everyone will be tapping their feet, clapping along, and even playing some of the percussion instruments on the stage!

Ferdinand the Bull

Ferdinand is a bull growing up in the Spanish countryside who would rather sit and smell the flowers than fight. When Ferdinand is mistakenly chosen for a bullfight, the matador tries everything to provoke him to fight, but Ferdinand refuses to be bullied. The Hudson Vagabond Puppets bring this classic storybook to life with a larger-than-life bull, masked dancers, and specialized mechanical figures, all based closely on the book's illustrations.

The Adventures of Ritzy the Wolf presents “Hansel and Gretel”

Join Ritzy and friends in this beloved Grimm Brothers fairy tale of two children and their adventures through the forest. Children in the audience will join with Hansel and Gretel to ingeniously outwit the wicked witch. Children will learn the story's safety message, "don't take candy from strangers". As with all Ritz children's shows, the audience actively participates by helping     Ritzy the Wolf tell the story.


The Frog Prince

Missoula Children's Theatre will work with more than 50 local students to present this enchanting musical fairy tale. Deep in the royal swamp, a selfish Princess makes a promise to befriend a lonely Frog after he retrieves her golden ball from a well. But what happens when the Princess tries every trick in the book to break her promise? Frog gets lots of good advice from those around him, becomes a Prince, and realizes that friendships are made, not bought, and that it is not what you are but who you are that counts.


Would you like to be part of the show?

Local students will be selected to perform and assistant direct with Missoula Children's Theater in The Frog Prince. An audition will be held Monday, July 26 at The Grand. Those auditioning should arrive at 10 AM and be prepared to stay until 2:30 PM, if selected.

Approximately 50-60 roles are available. All students from 1st grade through 12th grade are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. If selected, most students will rehearse from 10 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Friday.
