One of Russia’s greatest exports, the Tschaikowski St. Petersburg State Orchestra has built a devoted audience around the world. Under the baton of music director Roman Leontiev, the orchestra will play a program that includes works by Ravel, Prokofiev, and Rimsky-Korsakov. The Prokofiev piece, Concerto No. 1 in D-flat Major, will feature soloist Alexandre Pirojenko, whom The Washington Post described as having “the technical skills to do anything he wants with a piano; better yet, what he wants to do is sensitive, original, and brilliant.”
Known for its keen interpretations of Russian classical repertoire, The Tschaikowski St. Petersburg State Orchestra has had successful concert tours in Europe, China and Japan. Many of Russia’s most distinguished soloists and conductors have worked with the Orchestra over the past several decades, including Sviatoslav Richter, Elena Obraztsova, and Viktor Tretiakov.
