Ranked 30th in Rolling Stone’s "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” list, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Buddy Guy is often cited as the chief guitar influence of rock titans like Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Yet Guy’s legend continues to grow to this day: a pioneer of Chicago’s fabled electric blues sound, this dazzling guitarist has earned five Grammys and Billboard Magazine’s Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement. In the words of Hendrix himself, “Heaven is lying at Buddy Guy's feet while listening to him play guitar.”
Buddy was only seven years old when he fashioned his first makeshift “guitar”—a two-string contraption attached to a piece of wood and secured with his mother’s hairpins. He has been widely considered one of the most talented and prolific guitarists of all time, releasing over 50 records and collaborating with musicians as diverse as Muddy Waters, Carlos Santana, and John Mayer. As Guy states, “I just try to get the best players, and hope I can pop the top off this can and show that the blues are back.”
