After 11 months of searching for the area's best talent, 20 acts performed on the main stage during the IN THE SPOTLIGHT finale on Sunday, April 5, 2009. A Grand Prize Winner and 2 runners-up were chosen by a panel of 7 judges.
M. Dickson, a comedian, was the overall IN THE SPOTLIGHT Grand Prize Winner and walked away with a prize pack valued at over $2,000 including a check for $300 cash. Her sassy dry wit and flawless stand-up routine was a judge's favorite.
Runners-up included Chris Millison, a 17-year-old Cab Calloway student who tapped his way into the finale and 11-year-old Kendra Tate of Wilmington who impressed the judges with her modern lyrical dance. Each of these contestants walked away with prizes valued at $750 each.
Judges included: Kristina Kambalov of First State Ballet, Tina betz and John Rago of the Mayor's office from The City of Wilmington, Michael Waite of the morning show from WJBR, Mark Fields, managing Director of The Grand, Jim Miller of Out & About magazine and Fred Dawson, Grand Executive Committee and member of Club Phred.
