What: The Grand’s Steel Band
When: August 25, 2011 – April 26, 2011 (No Class on 11/24 and 12/29)
Where: Studio 1 & Wesler Room
Tuition: $360 (Payments must be received in advance: $360 total or $120 by 8/25, 11/10, and 2/23)

Come and learn a variety of musical styles and explore the beautiful sounds of steel pan – from classical, jazz and folk, to pop, rock and (of course) calypso. The Grand is offering a new program taught by Wilmington’s favorite Trinidadian, Atiba Fields. Weekly group instruction and rehearsals will take place Thursdays from 6pm – 8pm from August 25, 2011 – April 26, 2012. During the program students will learn:

• How to read music notation
• Understanding melodic form
• Harmonic structure
• Rhythmic articulation
• Ensemble performance
• Ear Training
• Improvisation

Group Sessions Available for Scheduling Between July 18 – August 12

 

 

One-Time Workshop: Introduction to Steel Drums or Ongoing Instruction to Suit Your Schedule

Each session must enroll 10-20 students, ages 7 to adult. Lower numbers may be combined to create a full class. Higher numbers cannot be accommodated. All sessions take place at The Grand.

Wilmington’s favorite Trinidadian, Atiba Fields, uses a variety of musical styles to explore the beautiful sounds of steel pan – from classical, jazz, and folk, to pop, rock, and (of course) Calypso.

Tuition: $6/hour per student

For example:
90-minute workshop for 20 students = $180
2 hours/day x 3 days/week x 4 weeks = 24 hours x 15 students = $2,160
